Education In Your State

Teen dating abuse is prevalent across the country, but the laws to educate middle & high school students about this issue vary drastically from state to state.

The Map displays the progress of dating abuse education laws in all 50 states. It is one of the only up-to-date sources currently available.  As you can see below, the dark green states have the strongest legislation on teen dating violence education in schools, the blue states have passed some form of legislation around the issue and the gray states indicate that no legislation is currently in place.

The Purpose is to inform readers about the legislative work that is being done, in partnership with our Love Is Not Abuse Coalition members and the National Foundation for Women Legislators^ (NFWL). It is our hope this chart will not only serve as an informational source, but also to provide an added action step for individuals to contact their state legislator and see what can be done to help further the bill.  You may also reach out to your state's domestic violence coalition to learn more.  Visit www.nnedv.org/resources/coalitions for a directory of coalitions.

^ Through annual educational and networking events, the NFWL supports women legislators from all levels of governance.
