It's Time To Talk Day 2009 Recap

December 3, 2009 was Liz Claiborne Inc’s sixth annual It’s Time to Talk Day.  On air and online, thousands of people were talking about domestic violence, teen dating abuse, and the need for education.  Guests at this year’s “Domestic Violence Talk Radio Row” included domestic violence experts, attorneys general, state legislators, corporate and government leaders, celebrities, parents and teens.

Nationwide, large-scale and small-scale events were held to mark the importance of this day, including a meeting between youth leaders and Attorney General Eric Holder and Education Secretary Arne Duncan in Washington, DC, regarding the urgent need for prevention.  The CBS Evening News aired a comprehensive special report on teen dating abuse.

And, this year’s It’s Time to Talk Day marked an exciting milestone - the one-year anniversary of MADE! Because of your dedication, MADE has grown tremendously over the past 12 months, with close to 4,000 members.  Thanks also in large part to our partnership with Redbook and the National Foundation for Women Legislators, 6 states have implemented legislation on teen dating violence education and thanks to our dedicated MADE members over 6,000 schools across the country have taught the Love Is Not Abuse curriculum.

Help us work toward the day that every school nationwide is teaching about healthy relationships by coordinating events in your own community.  For some helpful hints, check out our Event Ideas page.
